Flat belt conveyor

As shown above, the picture was an example of a flat belt conveyor. Flat belt conveyor was widely used for bulk conveying; however, they are also used for unit handling either in the form of one wide belt or multi flat tapes. Flat belt conveyor seems to be the clean option that leaves no chances for dirt and bacteria to grow, therefore are often used as food conveying.
A wide variety of surface finishes and materials are available on flat belts, making them one of the most versatile conveying media on the market.
Advantages:
An advantage was the low cost per meter of flat belts.
It can handle high throughputs and normally is for light goods.
Disadvantages:
There might be misleading as there might be hidden costs and drawbacks.
Fitting of belts can be time consuming and costly.
Expensive welding tools and specialist are required.
Problems associated with flat belts such as tracking, particularly when side loads from in-feed or out-feed conveyors are involved.
Achieving and keeping the correct belt tension and traction are also common problems
Tensioning devices are often required, adding to the overall cost.
